چکیده

T HE PRESENCE of alkalimse plsosphatase its segmented neutrophils has been well established. Although the origin, msature amid fumiction of this enzyme are poorly umsderstood, variations from the miornial leukocytic alkaline phosphatase activity have been demonstrated by biochensical amsd histoehemical methods. In chronic myelogemsous leukemia the emszynse is greatly deficient whereas its neutrophilic leukemoid reactions and its certaims mssyeloprohiferative disorders, there is a greatly increased activity.t’4 Ohservatiomss presented its this report on the behavior of alkalitse phosphatase after prolonged imscubation amid duritsg pyogenic infection have provided n-tore strikimig evidemsce of the enzynsatic differences in niorphologically similar cells iii some of the aI)ove disorders.

A Comparison of Human Leukocyte Phosphatase Activity toward Sodium p-Glycerophosphate, Adenosine 5’-Phosphate and Glucose 1-Phosphate

F OR A NUMBER OF YEARS this laboratory has been interested in the phosphatase activity of isolated human leukocytes and the marked lability of leukocyte alkaline phosphatase in disease.1 3 Leukocyte alkaline phosphatase has been demonstrated to be essentially limited to the granulocytic cells and to be characteristically low in chronic myelocytic leukemia. Elevated values are noted in polycythe...

Mechanisms of resistance to 6-thiopurines in human leukemia.

The activities of enzymes involved in the formation and catabolism of 6-thiopurine nucleotide were assayed in leukocytes of leukemic patients considered either suscepti ble or resistant to the 6-thiopurines. Altered ratios of the activities of hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase (H-GPRT) and adenine phosphoribosyltransferase were noted in leukocytes from 3 of 11 resistant acute nonly...
